Mekelle Institute of Technology is open to all regular students, nationwide, who have completed secondary level education and have high scholastic achievements in national examination results in at least five subjects, including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and the English Language.

The Institute has enrolled 105 students initially, i.e. in the year of its establishment, but starting with the 2003/2004 academic year, it intends to enroll 120 students every year.
 

Upon successful completion of the required courses in the respective programs of study the Institute shall offer a Bachelor of Science degree.
 

The Institute will have a limited number of scholarships available to deserving applicants.
